Erojacks and Park Reef Beach Dive

  • Von D. Mizell and Eula Johnson State Park 6503 North Ocean Drive Dania Beach, FL, 33004 United States (map)

Details

We'll meet at the park for an easy walk through the sand and a swim to the reef. The Park Reef never fails to please with its rich diversity of texture and marine life.

The Famous Erojacks are a bit of a walk down the beach but well worth the effort. Built as an erosion control experiment many years ago, the structure is now an artificial reef teaming with fish, lobster, coral, and sponges. This is a great site for photography and fish identification. No spearing is allowed because we are departing from the park where such hunting is prohibited.

Please be prepared to gear up and head for the water no less than 20-30 minutes after the posted meetup time. Entrance to the park is only $4 for single-occupant car/$6 for a car load but that pays for parking and use of all amenities.

Dive specifics include a 45-60 minute bottom time at depths from 16-26'. In good conditions, this dive is appropriate for divers needing to build their experience and a joy for those who are advanced. Be prepared to carry your gear 200 yards, if you want to dive the jacks or just 100 yards to the Park Reef entry point.

RENTAL GEAR IS AVAILABLE FOR THIS DIVE. Air tanks $10, BCD's $15, Regulator set $15, weights (any amount) $5. Please state your size when renting a BCD or Fins.
