Yellow Brick Road
LOCATION
GPS: 26.018487, -80.111727
ADDRESS: 1111 N. OCEAN DR., HOLLYWOOD, FL 33019
DESCRIPTION
Artificial reef structure composed of bricks and boulders in two sections where an outfall pipe was laid across the reef. The pipe extends two miles from shore under the sand and remains functional (as of 11/2025). Where it crosses the patch reef, it is accessible from the beach. The further section may be reached from the beach but is not recommended without boat support.
FEATURES
The Road is a prime habitat for all reef species and it is visited by larger fish and pelagics that feed off them.
AMENITIES
Parking is available in Margaritaville Resort and in public parking garage on Connecticut St. Restrooms and wash stations are at Charnow Park (Connecticut St) and showers at various locations on the Broadwalk. The famous Hollywood Beach Broadwalk is thick with restaurants and pubs. Lodging is plentiful within walking distance of the entry point.
RECOMMENDED SKILLS & TRAINING LEVEL
Best conditions (0-1’ waves, wind 5 mph or less, no current): open water certification with 5 or more independent dives logged.
Intermediate conditions (1-2’ waves, wind 5-10 mph, mild current): open water certification with beach entry training, 20 independent dives logged.
Sporty conditions (2-3’ waves, wind 10-15 mph, moderate current): advanced certification, rescue diver preferred.
Rough conditions (waves 3-4’ or more, wind over 15 mph, strong current): No diving.
COMPLEXITY & DISTANCE FROM SHORE
The site is simple with a clear path of bricks laid west to east, separated by a large pile of boulders. Current occasionally strong but manageable with planning. Boat traffic is negligible but possible (and perilously so during Lobster Mini-Season in late July!) First part of road lies approximately 100 yards from shore.
Diving the Yellow Brick Road
Beach divers love the Yellow Brick Road because it is so accessible and allow full of life. The Road never disappoints!
